This is one of our most established online courses and the only online MSc Environmental Health course accredited by both the Chartered Institute of Environmental Health and the Royal Environmental Health Institute of Scotland. That means it’s a crucial first step in becoming a qualified environmental health professional.
Environmental Health is a multi-facetted discipline which deals with issues that impact on the health and well being of individuals and society as a whole.
This online Environmental Health MSc course addresses the need for environmental health professionals who are able to understand and evaluate the risks posed by the stressors of the environmental health, through equipping you with the knowledge, expertise and skills needed to take on and enhance your role as a professional in this field of study.

Entry requirements
  • A minimum of a lower second class (2:2) Honours degree in a pure or applied science (or combination) of a UK university, the CNAA or an overseas equivalent.

  • Qualifications and experience considered to be equivalent to the above. All students applying via this route will be assessed and where necessary will to speak to the Academic Lead via a phone call or Skype.

Modules
Postgraduate Certificate stage:
For the Postgraduate Certificate you will study three core modules:
  • Public Health and Wellbeing,
  • Natural and Residential Environments
  • The Health Impacts of Workplace and Food
Completion of these three core modules can lead to the award of the PG Certificate in Environmental Health or you can progress to the PG Diploma stage and study a further three modules
Postgraduate Diploma stage:
For the Postgraduate Diploma you will then go onto study three core modules:
  • Hazard and Risk Management,
  • Professional Issues in Environmental Health
  • Applied Interventions
To receive CIEH/REHIS accreditation, you will need to attend a one week residential on campus in Derby, UK. This is part of the ‘Applied Interventions’ module and usually takes place in the Spring (May).
You will also need to attend a 1 week residential practical food inspection course and examination that is currently provided for the University by Billingsgate Market in London. This is a professional requirement and does not form a part of the MSc but is needed for professional registration.
If you are unable to attend these residential elements, you will graduate with an MSc Environmental Health Studies, which is a non CIEH/REHIS accredited award.
Completion of these three core modules can lead to the award of the Postgraduate Diploma in Environmental Health or you can progress to the full MSc in Environmental Health.
Masters stage:
To gain the full Masters degree you will then progress to the final stage and undertake the Independent Scholarly Activity to gain the full MSc Environmental Health.
